‘빛의 향연’광주미디어아트페스티벌 12일 개막
광주시는 ‘2023 광주미디어아트페스티벌’이 지난 12일 광주미디어아트플랫폼(G.MAP) 광장과 광주교 일원에서 개막, 나흘간 일정에 들어갔다고 밝혔다.
‘빛도 꿈을 꾸는가’라는 주제로 열리는 이번 광주미디어아트페스티벌은 과학과 예술, 산업의 융합을 보여주는 전시와 다양한 프로그램을 통해 ‘유네스코 미디어아트 창의도시 광주’의 위상을 보여주며, 시민들에게 한걸음 다가선다.
광주미디어아트플랫폼(G.MAP) 광장에서 열린 개막식은 축제에 참여한 10개 도시, 18명의 작가 소개와 함께 해외작가들의 영상축하와 격려메시지로 시작됐다.
강기정 시장은 “빛은 다양한 색이 모일수록 밝아진다. 광주도 시민 한분 한분의 다양한 꿈이 빛나는 도시가 되도록 꾸며나가겠다”며 “유네스코 미디어아트 창의도시 광주가 국제사회 속 선두역할을 할 수 있도록 정책과 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 말했다.
일상 속 미디어아트에 대한 관심을 높이기 위해 ‘빛도 꿈을 꾸는가’를 주제로 쇼츠영상 ‘미디어아트 시민공모전’ 시상식이 이어졌다.
공모전에서는 김지현의 ‘인간, 빛 그리고 종결으로’가 대상을, S&KOMUST의 ‘TOVE : 빛과 해방의 이야기’ 최우수상, 강지석의 ‘우주를 탐험하다’와 최종열의 ‘반짝 반짝 작은별’이 우수상을 수상했다. 무대에서는 대상작 ‘인간, 빛 그리고 종결으로’가 상영돼 눈길을 사로잡았다. (중략)

Gwangju Media Art Festival, a “Spectacle of Light,” Opens on the 12th
The Gwangju Metropolitan Government announced that the 2023 Gwangju Media Art Festival opened on the 12th at the Gwangju Media Art Platform, G.MAP, Plaza and around Gwangju Bridge, beginning its four-day program.
Held under the theme “Does Light Dream Too?”, the festival highlights Gwangju’s status as a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts through exhibitions and programs that demonstrate the convergence of science, art, and industry. It also aims to make media art more accessible to the public.
The opening ceremony at G.MAP Plaza began with an introduction to 18 participating artists from 10 cities, followed by congratulatory videos and messages of encouragement from international artists.
Mayor Kang Gi-jung said, “Light becomes brighter as more colors come together. In the same way, we will continue working to make Gwangju a city where the diverse dreams of each and every citizen can shine.”
He added, “We will provide unwavering policy support and resources so that Gwangju, a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts, can play a leading role in the international community.”
To encourage greater public interest in media art as part of everyday life, an awards ceremony was subsequently held for the Citizens’ Media Art Competition, which invited short-form videos under the theme “Does Light Dream Too?”
In the competition, Kim Ji-hyun’s “Human, Light, and Toward an Ending” received the Grand Prize. S&KOMUST’s “TOVE: A Story of Light and Liberation” received the Excellence Prize, while Kang Ji-seok’s “Exploring the Universe” and Choi Jong-yeol’s “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” received Outstanding Awards.
The Grand Prize-winning work, “Human, Light, and Toward an Ending,” was screened onstage and captured the audience’s attention. [Excerpt omitted]
